General Description
Thallus very dark green-brown to black, not greatly swollen when wet.
Habitats
Deciduous trees (often with latge horizaontal branches) or on mosses on trees and, more rarely, on rocks (mainly coastal).
Distribution
Mainly Western in the British Isles, rare and decreasing in the East. Europe, macaronesia, N., C. & S. America, Asia, Africa.
