Join the Society

Membership of the Society is open only to individuals . Apply to join using the    . NB - IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A NEW MEMBERSHIP YOU MUST COMPLETE AND SEND IN THIS FORM EVEN IF YOU ARE MAKING AN ELECTRONIC PAYMENT (PAYPAL ETC.).

Membership categories are as follows:

  • Ordinary Membership - Full entitlement to all publications (Bulletin, The Lichenologist in print & with online access to its archive) and facilities of the Society.
  • Electronic Membership - As Ordinary membership except that The Lichenologist is electronic access only.
  • Family Membership  - Open to persons of the same household as a member, having entitlement to all the facilities of the Society but receiving no publications and having no voting rights.
  • Associate Membership  - Associate membership enjoys full entitlement to all facilities of the Society as well as the Bulletin, but excluding The Lichenologist. The three categories are:
    • Associate Member
    • Senior Associate Member (provides a discount for those over 65 years of age)
    • Student Associate Membe r (provides a discount for those under 18 years or full-time students)

For the above membership categories subscription is per calendar year, and renewal of membership is required annually. In addition, the society also offers two categories of life membership:

  • Life membership (Ordinary)  - Open to persons over 65 years of age.   Entitlement as for Ordinary Membership
  • Life membership (Electronic ) - Open to persons over 65 years of age. Entitlement as for Electronic Membership.

Methods of Payment

Please ensure that every payment you make clearly states the member’s last name (if not the payer) and membership number as a reference.
  • Sterling cheques – drawn on a U.K. bank, or a bank with a U.K. branch or agent, should be made payable to ’The British Lichen Society’. Please send to the Membership Secretary, Heidi Doring;
  • US dollar cheques – should be also be made payable to ’The British Lichen Society’.  However, these are to be sent to our American Treasurer, Jim Hinds;
  • Bank transfers – from within the U.K. or from outside require the use of different bank accounts. Please, if you wish to pay this way and before you make any payment, contact the Membership Secretary in order to obtain the correct account details;
  • Standing Orders – U.K. bank account holders can arrange for regular annual payments via a standing order mandate;
  • Paypal - if you have a Paypal account, please use the forms/buttons provided below ;
  • Credit/Debit cards – payments to the society can be made with a range of credit/debit cards by using PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account - you can make one-time payments without being or becoming a registered PayPal user. Please, choose the appropriate button (2014 annual fees or Life membership).
 

Membership renewal

Subsequent subscriptions are due in advance on the 1st January.
 
If you are a current member and like to renew your membership, please do so by making arrangements to send us your fee using any of the above methods of payment.
