Education & Promotions Committee
The Committee raises awareness and understanding of lichens at all levels. The Committee includes members with direct and wider involvement in education at all levels.
Members have contributed hugely to:
- the production of illustrated guides to British and Irish lichens for audiences as varied as visitors to local gardens, students and research lichenologists;
- field courses;
- churchyard lichenology;
- response to queries by individuals and organisations (e.g. schools and universities) about lichen studies;
- project materials suitable for school students; t
- he Society's website;
- publicity information.
In 2008/9, the Committee made a substantial contribution to the national OPAL (Open Air Laboratories) project, through introducing the use of lichens by the general public, including school students, for monitoring air quality across England.
